Abi Carter remains to be reeling from winning season 22 of American Idol, but that hasn’t saved her from occupied with who she wants to see replace Katy Perry as a pass judgement on subsequent 12 months.
“I think Lady Gaga would crush that position,” Carter, 21, exclusively instructed Us Weekly after celebrating her victory on Sunday, May 19. “Katy, in fact — she’s like a monument to the exhibit. She left this sort of legacy. But I do feel like Lady Gaga could be so cool.”
Carter, who beat out fellow contestants Will Moseley and Jack Blocker on the finale, also shared that Meghan Trainor “can be truly cool” as a full-time judge after the “All About That Bass” singer, 30, was one of the crucial mentors this season.
“She’s just the sweetest, too,” Carter said of Trainor. “With the mentoring and seeing her behind the curtain, I bear in mind the day that she performed. She had the flu, so she had a mask on. And her hair was once blonde and blue, and I didn't recognize her, and she or he was like, ‘Hey, queen.’ And I was like, ‘Hey.’ And it dawned on me, like, five seconds later. I was like, ‘Oh, my God, That’s Meghan Trainor.’”
While Carter noted “there’s a large number of other people” who can be good judges, she insisted, “Katy, in fact, won't ever be ready to get replaced.”
Sunday’s display served as Carter’s victory lap at the series as well as to marking Perry’s final episode as one of the vital 3 judges. Perry, 39, has worked along Luke Bryan and Lionel Richie for seven seasons, and her swansong was once emotional for everyone on set.
“Every time Katy cries, I cry. Carter gushed in regards to the “Roar” singer, calling her a “wonderful” mentor all season. “All three of the judges were so superb, and so they roughly driven me to step out of my field that I put myself in,” she recalled. “They pushed me to be better and greater and bigger, and … to see them be emotional ultimate evening, it was like, ‘Woo!’”
Perry, for her section, documented her last finale episode by means of social media. She shared a video of herself throwing pizza into the target market mid-show, writing, “A pizza my middle will all the time be on the #idol stage.”
