
Lucky in love! (*5*) would possibly play one-third of an iconic teen love triangle on Amazon Prime’s The Summer I Turned Pretty sequence — but in genuine life, he’s happily taken.
The Summer I Turned Pretty, which debuted in June 2022, features Briney’s persona Conrad Fisher — a brooding and emotionally unavailable bad boy — as one of two main love interests for sequence protagonist Isabel “Belly” Conklin (Lola Tung). The youngster rom-com is according to a guide trilogy of the same name through showrunner Jenny Han and follows Belly thru her adventures in Cousins Beach as she figures out if her heart in point of fact lies with Conrad or his brother, Jeremiah (Gavin Casalegno).
Conrad is the unmistakable heartthrob of the collection, the boy Belly has eternally swooned for since she was once a young woman. Despite her never-ending flip-flopping, it feels inevitable that Belly’s heart will always belong to Conrad — something Briney didn’t slightly understand when he first stepped into the function.
“When I first learn the book and when the script started coming in, I used to be like, ‘This dude more or less sucks,'” he published throughout a June interview with POPSUGAR. “He’s in reality rude and he’s no longer telling folks how he feels, and that’s why he’s in all this bother.”
As time went on, however, the Connecticut local learned that Conrad, who is conserving onto secrets and techniques about both his dad’s infidelity and mother’s recent cancer prognosis, is just a teenage boy making an attempt to take care of his own emotions.
“He’s simply younger and … just making an attempt to keep it together for the folks he loves,” the actor defined. “Yes, he owes an apology to some other folks on this planet, however he’s 17. He can make mistakes. He’s going to proceed to make errors, and he’s simply hurt.”
According to Briney, whilst the display may heart itself around the romantic pressure between characters, the solid themselves are more like family than the rest.
“It was once the sort of blessing to be able to make those actual friendships as a result of they gave us time to get to know each and every different, spend time with each different, and actually cross to the beach and get up to trouble with each and every different,” he informed POPSUGAR. “By the first day [of capturing], it felt like we’d recognized each other for years.”
For his own romantic life, Briney is much more decided than his onscreen counterpart. He’s been dating Isabela Rose Machado since 2021, and the two walked their first pink carpet at The Summer I Turned Pretty premiere in New York City earlier this month.
“Get you some buddies like these 😍,” Briney wrote alongside a photo of him and Machado hugging at the tournament.
The two have stored their dating fairly low-key but from time to time take to social media to display their affection for one some other.

In June, the twosome celebrated their one-year anniversary together. Briney wrote via Instagram on the time: “A complete year?! I may just never need the rest,” alongside a candy snap of the pair. Machado, for her section, chose to honor their “feelingsaversary,” in May, writing via Instagram, “ So glad we kiss now,” to which Briney replied, “I never want it some other approach 💘💘💘.”
