Mark Ruffalo is opening up about experiencing a well being scare on the age of 33.
“I had a brain tumor after the good fortune of You Can Count on Me,” Ruffalo, now 56, recalled at the Monday, January 22, “SmartLess” podcast episode, regarding the 2000 drama.
Ruffalo explained that at the time, his wife, Sunrise Coigney, now 51, was once nine months pregnant with their eldest child, Keen, now 22, and “the child was imminently coming.”
“I had a kind of 4 a.m. calls and I woke up most likely round Three a.m. and I just had this loopy dream,” Ruffalo said. “And it wasn’t like some other dream I’d ever had. It used to be similar to, ‘You have a brain tumor.’ It wasn’t even a voice. It was simply pure wisdom, ‘You have a brain tumor, and you have to deal with it immediately.’”

He added that the dream was once “so intense” and had a “sense of doom.” Ruffalo explained that the only symptoms he had was once an ear infection, but he nonetheless went to the physician immediately after his dream.
“I said, ‘Listen, that is going to sound loopy, but I had this dream final night time that I had a brain tumor,’” he recalled, including that the doctor proceeded to order him a CAT scan in spite of unconvincing evidence. “And I used to be like, ‘Great, I am loopy. Just do it anyway.’”
The 13 Going on 30 actor persisted that he went to the neurologist’s administrative center to have the scan learn, after which the nurse referred to as the doctor out.
“She comes in and he or she’s simply kind of, like, a zombie,” he recalled. “And she says, ‘You have a mass behind your left ear the dimensions of a golfing ball. We don’t know what it is, we will be able to’t inform till it’s biopsied.’”

Ruffalo added that he didn’t inform Coigney because of their kid’s imminent arrival, and he in the end waited till per week after their child used to be born to wreck the scoop to her.
“When I told Sunny about it, first she idea I was joking,” he defined. “And then she just burst into tears and stated, ‘I all the time knew you have been gonna die young.’”
While the tumor ended up being benign, Ruffalo still left the health scare with an enduring situation — he became “completely deaf” in one ear.

“When I woke up, the left facet of my face was utterly paralyzed, like I couldn’t even shut my eye,” he mentioned. “They mentioned to me I had like I had a 20% likelihood of nicking my nerve on the left facet of my face and killing it and then I had a 70% chance of shedding my listening to, which went.”
He endured that he “didn’t really believe” it but said, “Take my listening to, but let me stay the face and simply let me be the father of these kids.”
