
Kacey Musgraves’ members of the family haven’t shied clear of weighing in on her career — especially her grandma.
“I used to be appearing my folks and my grandparents the footage that my sister had taken. And then the naked one came up, and Nana [gasped]. Like she just saw a automobile ruin, mainly,” Musgraves, 35, recalled throughout her Wednesday, March 20, appearance on Today’s Country Radio.
Musgraves said her granny Barbara couldn’t consider her eyes the primary time she noticed the nude alternative cover of her new album, Deeper Well, which was released earlier this month.
“She was once like, ‘No!’ She was like, ‘That’s not … that’s a cover?’ And I was like, ‘Yeah, it’s some of the covers,'” added Musgraves.
Upon understanding that Musgraves used to be being utterly severe, Barbara had some choice words for her granddaughter.
“She used to be like, ‘Kacey, you’re a singer, not a stripper,’” Musgraves recalled, including, “And I used to be like, ‘Well, you already know what? You may also be both.'”
The artwork Musgraves was referencing shows her curled up naked on the floor in a field of grass and tiny yellow wildflowers with bushes in the distance. In the image, her back is going through the digital camera and her lengthy brown hair is the only thing masking her body.
Musgraves famous that the image wasn’t in reality deliberate. Instated, it took place organically while she was on location along with her sister.
“I just randomly had this idea … Because it used to be a big, huge open inexperienced area. And I used to be like, ‘What if I used to be simply really small?’ Like, in the fetal position, type of, into the earth,” she explained at the radio program. “And it’s simply sort of vulnerable and virtually like rebirth, I assume.”
The other cover option, also shot via Musgraves’ sister, is completely different. It features the Grammy winner dressed in what seems to be an off-the-shoulder sweater, observing at the digicam and keeping a red clover as the wind blows thru her hair.

This isn’t the first time Musgraves’ grandma has chimed in on her creative possible choices. In 2018, she shared in an interview with Stereogum that her grandma extensively utilized to scold her for cursing.
