Padma Lakshmi opened up about her reasons for leaving Top Chef after webhosting the Bravo festival series for 17 years.
Lakshmi, 52, detailed her concept procedure in an interview with Variety’s “Awards Circuit” podcast on Thursday, August 24. “I had been on location for 8 months out of the year. And after I wasn’t on location, I used to be in pre- and post-production for both my shows,” she defined, referring to Top Chef and her Hulu collection, Taste the Nation. “And I was having a look at edits of one display whilst on the set of every other show. It was simply onerous and untenable for me to proceed that approach.”
Lakshmi went on to mention that her busy agenda also wasn’t leaving her much time for relationship. “I haven’t had a dating in a very long time either, as a result of I’m at all times running. I don’t know when I suppose I used to be going to fulfill anybody,” she said. “I’m surrounded by folks I either employ or make use of me, and neither of the ones [groups of] persons are appropriate [for a romantic relationship].”
She further defined that she wants to spend more time with her 13-year-old daughter, Krishna, whom she shares with ex Adam Dell. “It used to be additionally about having a private life, to be fair, and likewise being present for my daughter — she’s an adolescent,” Lakshmi mentioned. “In five years, she’s going to head off and have her personal life and optimistically move to university and stuff. It wasn’t a very simple resolution.”
Lakshmi announced her exit from Top Chef in June, shortly before the season 20 finale aired. “After much soul searching, I have made the tricky decision to depart Top Chef,” she wrote via Instagram on the time. “Having completed an excellent twentieth season as host and government producer, I am extremely proud to were a part of building such a successful show and of the affect it has had within the worlds of television and meals. After 17 years, many of the solid and workforce are like circle of relatives to me and I will miss running alongside them dearly.”
In her commentary, Lakshmi famous that she felt it was once “time to transport on” so she may “make area for Taste the Nation” and her “other ingenious interests.” Taste the Nation — which premiered in 2020 — hasn’t yet been renewed for a third season, but Lakshmi mentioned on Thursday that the Hulu collection wasn’t the one thing she considered when deciding to depart Top Chef.

“Other complex elements went into me just being achieved with Top Chef, which we don’t have time to go into here,” she persisted. “But I feel I just idea, ‘If I’m feeling this way, then I’ve got to consider my gut.’ I’ve also got to make room in my life and my schedule for new things to bubble up.”
One month after Lakshmi announced her departure, Bravo confirmed that Kristen Kish will be successful her in the internet hosting position. Kish, 39, received season 10 of Top Chef in 2013. She has since taken her skills to Fast Foodies and Iron Chef: Quest for an Iron Legend. Earlier this 12 months, she hosted the National Geographic sequence Restaurants at the End of the World.
