Robert De Niro’s daughter Drena De Niro still has a special position in her center for her late son, Leandro De Niro Rodriguez, one year after his death.
Leandro died at age 19 in July 2023 after an accidental drug overdose. Drena, 56, wrote a touching tribute in her son’s honor whilst marking the first anniversary of his death on Tuesday, July 2.
“I KNEW this child was jacking my garments in the back of my back!!!” Drena started her social media message, sharing a photograph of her son rocking one among her outfits. (Drena shared Leandro with artist Carlos Mare.)
Drena — who is one of Robert’s seven children — posted pictures of Leandro through the years in addition to an image of his grave surrounded by plant life.
“Today we celebrated candy wild boy Leo 🖤…” she persisted. “In your few minutes here, you made the arena a brighter position.”
Drena gushed: “You are deeply loved just like the sun loves the moon and the moon loves the ocean.”
The actress thanked “each and every one among you who held me” and her family of their “hands and hearts during the darkest days.” Drena concluded, “I will be able to only hope to pay it forward,” adding the hashtag “cantspelllovewithoutleo,” in honor of her son.
In addition to footage of Leandro, Drena posted a poem called “You Are Joy,” which contained a message of hope and love. “You are intelligence; we're Your voice,” one line learn, while any other mentioned, “You are pleasure and we're laughter, for we are the results of the blessing of Your joy.”
One year prior, Drena introduced that Leandro had died, retaining details regarding the motive underneath wraps.
“My gorgeous sweet angel. I have liked you beyond phrases or description from the instant I felt you in my abdominal. You have been my joy my center and all that used to be ever pure and actual in my lifestyles,” she wrote by way of Instagram in July 2023. “I wish I used to be with you at the moment. I want I used to be with you.”
Drena added: “I don’t know the way to live with out you but I’ll try to go on and unfold the affection and light that you so made me really feel in getting to be your mama. You had been so deeply beloved and favored and I want that love by myself may have saved you 😞.”

Earlier this year, Robert opened up more about Leandro’s death, telling People in February he was in “shock” and “disbelief” after learning the scoop. “[I] never thought it will occur,” the Oscar winner explained.

Prior to his passing, Leandro was once an actor like his grandfather and his mother, having seemed in 2018’s A Star Is Born.
Leandro was the only kid of Drena, who is Robert’s eldest daughter. The actor followed Drena when she used to be Five years old with his then-wife, Diahnne Abbott. Robert and Abbott, 79, later welcomed their son, Raphael, in 1976.
Robert could also be the father of 28-year-old twins Aaron and Julian, whom he stocks with Toukie Smith. He and ex-wife Grace Hightower proportion son Elliot, 26, and daughter Helen, 13.
