Ryan Edwards’ overdose performed out on Teen Mom: The Next Chapter — a harrowing incident that left son Bentley feeling “offended,” according to Maci Bookout.
On the Wednesday, September 6, episode of the Teen Mom spinoff show, Maci, 31, won the news that her ex had overdosed on drugs just days after he selected to depart court-ordered rehab early.
“Before [Ryan] went to rehab, [Bentley] was very concerned and very worried,” Maci informed her pals about the former couple’s 15-year-old son’s reaction to his dad’s ongoing substance abuse issues. “He stored announcing, ‘I don’t want him to must deal with this alone. I’m frightened about him.’ And then as soon as he was in Texas [in rehab], like the rest of us, it’s like a breath of unpolluted air. We don’t have to fret for somewhat bit.”
However, Ryan’s determination to depart treatment — which Maci surmised was because of him wanting to be with family and be able to contact his lawyer amid his contentious divorce from estranged wife Mackenzie Edwards — was one that had grave consequences. On April 7, Ryan was discovered “unconscious and unresponsive” in his car, in keeping with an arrest affidavit received by Us Weekly at the time. Maci instructed her pals that Ryan needed to be revived through Narcan — a drugs that reverses opioid overdoses — twice.
After Maci informed her eldest son that his father had overdosed, Bentley — who had just seen his dad a number of days prior when Ryan got here to his 3-hitter — was “simply angry,” she recalled.

“The way issues were going the last 4 or 5 months and the way excellent issues were going, even in the midst of all this crap with [Ryan’s] soon-to-be ex-wife … I feel Bentley is offended because he’s like I was,” Maci explained. “Like, ‘Man, do you understand how much attainable you could have?’ I just assume for Bentley, he’s similar to, ‘Damn, 10 pieces of the puzzle had been installed the right position and you still couldn’t get the five pieces left in there.”
Ryan — who was arrested for a DUI and possession of a controlled substance on the time — was discovered with a bag containing a “crystal sort substance,” the affidavit learn, as well as a “2d small bag of what seemed to be a blue powder.” The MTV personality also “advised he snorted a powder prior to waking up in the back of an ambulance.”
During Wednesday’s episode of Teen Mom: The Next Chapter, Ryan got candid — and emotional — when speaking about his habit.
“Heroin. Using that s—t’s tough. I imply, it will kill you and you wouldn’t even comprehend it,” he stated in a confessional, sharing how he didn’t want to go down that path once more.

Maci, for her phase, cried for both Ryan and their son. (Maci also shares two children with husband Taylor McKinney.)
“When I came upon that Ryan had overdosed, that’s really the first time I was actually scared. Having to have that conversation with Bentley, and simply … knowing how I felt [finding out] but Ryan’s no longer my dad. All of it is so onerous,” she mentioned, breaking down in tears. “Bentley feels all of that times one million. And he’s a child.”
After his overdose and DUI arrest, Ryan was sentenced to nearly one year in jail after pleading to blame to harassing Mackenzie, 26, previous this 12 months. (Mackenzie, who shares two kids with Ryan, filed for divorce from her estranged husband in February.) Ryan was launched to a halfway space in June, where he was later spotted with Mackenzie over the summer. Last month, Bentley shared a photo taking part in golfing with Ryan, Taylor and Ryan’s dad, Larry Edwards.
