They’re crazy and eccentric! While it’s been more than 30 years since The Addams Family used to be first launched in 1991, the movie has persisted as one of the most popular Halloween flicks and even spawned several spinoffs and sequels.
The original film introduced the 1930s-era illustrations by Charles Addams to existence starring several famous actors, including the likes of Anjelica Huston, Christina Ricci, Raúl Juliá and Christopher Lloyd.
The supernatural cult comedy followed the extraordinary, aristocratic Addams family as they reconnected with their long-lost relative, Fester Addams. Though, what they don’t know is that he’s the followed son of a loan shark, intent on stealing their circle of relatives fortune.
From the moment the manufacturing staff started making plans the movie, they straight away agreed that Juliá and Huston were the best alternatives to portray the family matriarch and patriarch.
“Scott [Rudin] and I each agreed on Anjelica Huston and Raúl Juliá as Morticia and Gomez,” director Barry Sonnenfeld recalled to The Guardian in November 2018. “The studio wanted Cher however we felt that may unbalance the movie — we didn’t need it to be about stars. Raúl was once completely suited for play Gomez. I’ve never labored with any person more in love with existence. Anjelica appeared very much the section for Morticia – tall, lithe, skinny. You by no means need someone for your comedy to acknowledge you’re creating a comedy, you need the actors to play the truth of their characters, which is why Raúl and Anjelica have been so good.”
Huston, who went on to earn a Golden Globe nomination for playing Morticia, famous that she had an excessively specific inspiration while filming.
