Case closed. Vanessa Bryant settled a lawsuit filed towards her by her mother, Sofia Laine, Us Weekly can ascertain. While the phrases of the agreement are personal, the case is over.
According to courtroom documents acquired by Us in December 2020, Laine claimed that she worked as an unpaid “longtime personal assistant and nanny” for her daughter’s circle of relatives and that the late Kobe Bryant “promised to maintain” her “for the remainder of her lifestyles.”
The papers alleged that “Kobe Bryant’s promises didn't see the light of day as he's now deceased, and Vanessa Bryant took every step she could to void and cancel all of Kobe Bryant’s promises made to [Laine]. Vanessa Bryant didn't intend to honor any of the Bryants’ representations, agreements and guarantees at any stage.”
In a commentary to Us on the time, Vanessa, 39, claimed that the past due NBA star “never promised [her] mother anything” and denied that her mother used to be ever a non-public assistant or nanny for her circle of relatives.
“[She’s] continuing to try and find tactics to extort a monetary windfall from our family,” she added. “She used to be a grandmother who was once supported by me and her son-in-law at my request. … She now wants to back-charge me $96 according to hour for supposedly working 12 hours an afternoon for 18 years for gazing her grandchildren. In reality, she only on occasion babysat my older girls when they were tots. As of 10 years ago, our youngsters had been full-time scholars and athletes and I didn’t have another kid till 2016. Her claims are patently false however I still attempted, many times, to paintings issues out with my mother.”
Kobe died tragically in a January 2020 helicopter accident at age 41. The crash also killed the pair’s 13-year-old daughter, Gianna, as well as seven others.
